Training With My "Baby Steps" Manual
"I have never been so confident when it comes to Gracie." - Adam
When I first came across Tori and her training methods online, I was super worried that it wouldn't help my girl, Gracie. Knowing her and her behavior I thought, 'There's no way I'm going to be able to read this book and change both of our behaviors without an actual trainer here.' I'm happy to say that I have never been so wrong in my life!
I picked up the Baby Steps manual from Tori personally since I was in the area and I instantly felt as ease and felt like I could trust her and her methods. I started reading through the manual that night and just by reading the introduction I caught myself thinking, 'How did I not think of that!?' The way she lays things out and explains every little thing makes doing it alone extremely easy and next to impossible to mess up. There were a few times where Gracie and I were struggling and I called Tori and she walked me through every little step and even broke it down into easier ones to help us get through it.
I have never been so confident when it comes to Gracie. Her behavior has improved so much I sometimes wonder if she's actually the same dog. Along with her listening better and responding better, it's so much easier to teach her new things because I now know the most positive and easiest ways to get through to her so she understands what I want from her.
If you are able to follow along and follow directions you will have no problem with Tori's manual and you'll see a huge improvement in your pup.
I absolutely recommend her, 110%!

I am absolutely astonished at the change in Lulu. She is no longer face bopping my kids and being all around rude with them in her behavior.
She now is calm around them. She hasn’t gone into the kitchen to sneak food for gosh…a week or more! In fact, yesterday afternoon I took a shower and didn’t put her in her crate like I used to have to. I wanted to see what she would do. Well, when I got out I found her laying right outside the door! How awesome is that?!
Instead of obsessively pacing the house sniffing every square inch for anything remotely edible, she now naps or plays at my feet or stays right outside the kitchen if I’m working in there (I taught her to stay out of the kitchen).
Another remarkable change is Lulu stays calm when we move around and even when the kids are running and playing! She used to bolt up and run after anyone who made even the smallest movement. Now she doesn’t even raise an ear. I can’t thank you enough Victoria!

We have a little Silky Terrier, Lacey, who is just one year old and truly lives up to the well-known reputation of terriers, being very active and is not fearful of anything.
She is certain that she could, without a bit of trouble, take on any giant dog she could possibly cross paths with.
I was absolutely dumbfounded upon learning that you would accept payments!
Your caring and understanding of how people have to really work hard these days just to make ends meet was one huge blessing for me. Long story short, we were able to go on with the training with payments stretched out which made it doable. We are more than just a little pleased with the results of your baby-step program. Although we can see this is sort of a 'work in progress' program requiring a lot of work, Lacey has adapted well to the lessons plus we have been developing a firm bond between us and we've both been having a lot of fun in the process.
I'm so glad we started this program!

I can’t tell you how much I value the lesson. It isn’t even a toolbox. It’s like 10 toolboxes.
It's just awesome. So clear. All the details, so well written, step-by-step.

I loved the Step-by-Step training manual! As a technical writer, I can say it is very well written.
The training tasks that make up part one of the manual are simple and easy to perform. As someone who has read volumes on dog training, and has successfully rehabbed a very shy dog to the point that he recently passed his Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test, I must say that the manual contained a great deal of invaluable information that was new to me. Much of it was subtle but extremely powerful and the techniques worked well with Gizmo.

Tori’s Baby Steps manual has been a lifesaver for us. Molly is doing great.
She is our wonderful three-year-old chocolate Lab who is full of personality, love and energy. We just finished the lesson and are already seeing incredible results. We were outside last night and a neighbor, Dan, came over. Molly and I were on the front deck. Molly was laying at my feet. Previously she would have jumped up, run to Dan and practically knocked him over, then ‘herd’ him to the deck. This time she thumped her tail on the deck and when I looked at her she was already looking to me for direction (amazing, but it’s what she learned in the lesson).
I told her to ‘go’ and she galloped over to him and stopped. He gave her a pat on her head and greeted her and she turned around and came back to me, flopped down and thumped her tail some more. I was totally AMAZED. I couldn’t believe she was the same dog. Dan was even impressed. We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but when I see things like that I know she’s ‘getting it’. She’s a different dog, and I wish I had done it sooner. If you’ve considered using Tori’s manual and hesitated, hesitate no more. It is remarkable!! Your beloved pet can be well mannered, and focused. You no longer have to make up excuses for their bad manners.
Tori’s manual is easy to follow and the difference you’ll see in your dog in a couple of days will leave you wondering why you didn’t do it sooner. Thank you Tori. You are a guardian angel. Your love of dogs and sharing that love with others is invaluable. Thank you, thank you, thank you, and God Bless.
4-week checkup:
Hi Tori. Molly is doing so much better. Even when we play Frisbee now instead of trying to play ‘tug of war’ she will ‘sit, ‘leave it’ and ‘stay’ so you can pick up the thing without her trying to grab it out of your hand. She doesn’t beg at the table any more, she lays down until your meal is over.
When we have company she is polite, and I’m still always amazed when I look at her and she’s looking at me for direction. Incorporating the lessons in life as it is has become second nature. And she still has all of that Lab energy, and loves everyone.

Keesha, my new dog (a 10-month-old German Shepherd I had just a week before taking Tori’s lesson), and I had been working on the lesson with good success.
We took a play break and I had one of her favorite toys, Kong Wubba. As I picked it up she got a little too excited, jumping around and grabbing at it. I just stood still like I do in the lesson, and she calmed herself by laying down and 'asking permission,' just like in the lesson! Amazing! Now this is part of how she communicates. When she wants something, she calms herself and asks permission. Love it!

The lesson is going really, really well! I took Bailey Button to her groomer today. She didn’t flip out, as she usually does.
Her groomer said she was really proud of her. It is amazing! I think this lesson is really building her confidence. It is really, really exciting! Your training manual is full of great information EVERY dog owner should know.

So we were just sitting with Charley and talking about how much calmer she is, even though we are not yet done with the lesson.
It's as if she's getting the leadership and direction she's needed. She's starting to stop licking too. She didn't bark at Lee tonight when he came home, and he's finally spending some quality time with her!!
Thank you for everything!!! I know we still have a lot of work to do but so far the difference is amazing!!

Thank you for writing such an excellent manual, Victoria.
You consider the WHOLE dog and his life, not just pieces and leave the jigsaw puzzle for the bewildered owner to figure out how to put together! haha Even at this late date with Zach (9 years old), I feel there is a chance I can BUILD a great dog. And he does seem to be focusing on me more even when not training. We will test him today when his 'auntie and uncle' come to visit us; they have always liked to have him show off his tricks so today it just might be some 'good behavior' instead, ha!

I think your training manual is a valuable resource and as I said before, a complete no-brainer, but it just didn’t come naturally to me.
It was great to have everything laid out step-by-step. Kind of made me feel a bit dense to see it’s as easy as it is, but am so very thankful for having used it.

We had our German shepherd dog, Sasha, in regular dog training classes, but were struggling with her being WILLING to do what we wanted.
She is very smart and very active. We had taken two phone lessons with Victoria with our other dog so we knew her methods worked. We decided to try her training manual. It was fantastic!
She starts each new lesson with 'what it looks like when trained' so at each section we knew where we were going. She assigns a variety of tasks to do and encourages the student all along the way. We found the manual very easy to follow. Our smart puppy looked forward to the training, as did we. The manual gave us a really good foundation for Sasha that will help us all live together much more happily.

Hi Tori. Shortly after working on the lesson, neighbors came over in the alley to talk across the fence. (Murphy’s usual behavior is to bark aggressively, and very loud, if we pick him up he panics and barking gets even worse.)
Saturday’s behavior was…… Murphy walked out to the fence, picked up a chew bone, laid down in the grass and chewed on the bone. Even the neighbors stood with their mouths open. We were all astounded. It was wonderful. We are very happy with his progress.

"Victoria’s dog training manual is GREAT!
She covers everything you need to teach your dog proper manners and the usual obedience commands and she breaks it down into easy to follow baby steps. My dog Phoebe and I had taken basic obedience classes. So, she already knew sit, down, stay, come and all that. But these were essentially “tricks” because Phoebe had poor manners overall, and I didn’t understand how to put her training to use in any practical way.
Victoria’s lesson helped me understand the bigger picture, and the manual was an inexpensive way to take the lesson.
Each lesson task describes the goal (what the behavior will look like when trained) and she breaks each task down into step-by-step instructions that are easy to follow. She predicts where you might run into trouble and provides helpful tips to prevent that. There are photographs in the beginning to show you how to get started and reminders throughout the manual as a way to keep yourself in check while teaching the tasks to your dog. The tasks are simple and easy and are things you do every day with your dog and they just become part of your normal routine. In fact, it all made so much sense that I often felt like smacking my forehead and saying, 'Why didn’t I think of that?'
It’s so exciting to watch Phoebe calm herself and look to me for direction. I no longer get frustrated with her behavior. If she does something I don’t like, I know how to fix it and if something does come up that I can’t figure out, Victoria’s free follow-up help is only a phone call away."

"Hi Tori! We just finished the manual lesson yesterday and are having wonderful results.
Shelby comes running into the house with the other dogs and comes right to me and settles down right away. Amazing! And she seems very happy. Happy dog, Happy mom. I did pass your name on to friends of my daughter. They just received a rescue dog and are looking for training. We need to get your name out to everyone because it really does work. Every dog owner should take your lesson. It is fantastic. I can’t thank you enough."

Before the lesson, I asked Kat in my intake questions:
"What would you like to accomplish in our lesson?" Kat's reply: "I’d like to have a manageable dog."
I also asked: "What have you already done to rectify the problems with your dog?" Reply: "I’ve tried the 'prevent a problem' technique. But often I fall back on 'ABBY – NO, ABBY – STOP (biting the cat…) ABBY-OUTSIDE, ABBY – OFF, ABBY – SHHH… ABBY – #$%&.' I know it is horrible, but I need better skills!"
4-Week Checkup:
"Hello Kat! This is your 4-week checkup. How is everything going with Abby? I’m here for any problems or questions, free of charge, at any time in the future regarding anything we covered in our lesson. Please don’t hesitate to call on me. I want you to succeed! I’d love to hear how you are doing. – Tori"
Kat's reply: "Tori: You would be so impressed with Abby at the dog park yesterday! We’ve been working diligently and… she came when called, followed my lead and we both had a wonderful time! Yesterday was great. Also, she has not had a single accident in the house and she is happier. We are both happier. I think that is a key point of training. Be happy! This weekend in Newport is a dog-friendly brew fest – I am super excited! Not only for the beer, but because of Abby’s socialization. I am confident that this will be a great adventure!"

One of my students, Judy, is a vet tech student, show dog breeder and handler of 15+ years, and has even more years experience training dogs. In her answers to my intake questions, she said, “I have trained my own dogs very well and know quite a lot about training.”
But she has a new dog she just acquired, who she said, “Just will not listen to me.”
Midway through the course, I sent Judy an e-mail to check on her progress. I wrote, “Hi Judy. How is the training going?”
She wrote back, “Training is going really, really well. I am following your training step-by-step. It is really different than any training I have done before, but it is working. You have a great product.” One week after Judy’s lesson, I e-mailed to check on her. In response, she wrote, “Ivan is doing remarkably well. He comes when I call him, knows my basic puppy commands (leave it, drop it, stay, come). He no longer pulls on the leash and seems to be a happy dog who wants to play with the others.”

Tori was incredibly patient, kind, loving and professional with the clear goal of our family's success.
Our Pomeranian is a rescue and he has had issues of separation anxiety and fearfulness of new people and situations. Tori's training was simple to follow, affordable and easy to apply... and the best part is that several months later, Roo is STILL doing everything he learned in Tori's lesson. We highly recommend Tori's gentle, humane and effective training techniques! She is truly an angel and we are grateful for her wisdom that helped transform our family!

It's been a huge revelation to me how much better your techniques are working than my old ways (punishing).
It's quite a positive lifestyle change. I still have a ways to go, but I can see that Tillie is much more motivated (on her own) to do things the way I prefer when I use your techniques. And, it makes me more calm because I'm not in a power struggle with her. I just stay calm and teach her to do what I want. I don't have to force her or nag her; I just have to be calm, patient, and consistent. It's so much more peaceful these days. It's nice! Thanks for being there. When you say you want your students to succeed, it's not just a slogan!

I can't thank Victoria and her training manual enough for enabling us to keep our family intact.
Our 8-year-old Chihuahua had learned territorial aggression and when a new baby came along she was overprotective even more. We had regretfully decided to re- home her as the best option and were looking to have her adopted. I was beside myself, as this dog was such a faithful companion and integral part of our family for over 8 years. She had done puppy training and all the way to advanced training with a local resource. I contacted Victoria in tears and was distraught as well as physically and emotionally sick over this dilemma.

Victoria was available every day and night during my efforts, as I dedicated myself to the training. I had daily contact with her by phone for reassurance, clarification and support.
With loyal dedication to her easy step-by-step instructions in the manual, our dog has remained in our home where she has always belonged. I have physical mobility limits, so she not only helped me adjust some parts of the lessons, she reassured me the rewards would still be possible. She was right. |
I recommend the Miss Manners training from Victoria when you fear there are no other options or hope. She will help your family be successful. We are so thankful.

I wanted you to know how skeptical I was at first about training my dog with your book instead of an in-home visit.
I have to say now how impressed I was with your training manual. The information in there is GOLDEN!!
I love the step-by-step instructions and the ways to train a dog (me, really)! My 3-year-old pit/retriever is a big scaredy-cat! In your manual, I learned that he is not trying to dominate us, he's just scared of everything.
Since we finished the lesson, I have taken Mugz with me and helped him become more social. I feel much more relaxed and trust him more. We would highly recommend your training to anyone. My husband is so impressed!
Thank you again for your professionalism and excellent work.

Victoria told me that the manual is easy to understand and use and that students rarely call her for help, but if they do, she helps them for free and if she can’t help, they don’t have to pay.
Well, I trained my two German shepherds with the manual, and I did have some problems and I did contact her several times for assistance. She always got back to me right away. When I needed help the other day, we talked for a short time and I was able to solve the problem and accomplish the next 3 steps very quickly. Victoria said she would be there for me 100% and she has been. I am only halfway through the lesson but both my dogs and I are learning so much and we are having fun working together!

I am truly amazed with Victoria’s training program AND her method does indeed work.
Her manual is very explicit, taking you through step-by-step. I get so tickled every time I see Thea down on her tummy, waiting for direction from me!
Thea is doing wonderfully and I have my sanity back!!!

I met Tori when I was with my Moon at the dog park and she very nicely showed me that Moon was too fearful about the experience.
Then I did her training course and it was wonderful! He has since really gained confidence and now LOVES to go to the dog park. Moon and I got so much out of the lesson, and I continue to enjoy, and learn from, her free Doggie Parenting e-newsletter. In gratitude for Tori’s generous help…

Chance did GREAT!!
The cat even came down the stairs later in the evening while I was snuggling with both dogs and Chance was able to let her wander around without chasing after her. He didn't take his eyes off her but also didn't jump up to chase her. What a miracle day!!! Thank you so much!! We will keep working!!

Hi Victoria! Your training manual is wonderful!
I have more work to do on some of the tougher issues, but my rescue dog, Abby, has made TREMENDOUS progress. She, the chow hound, actually lays down when I put her food bowl down and waits for me to tell her it's ok to eat. Friends have commented about how much calmer and more responsive she is....and she keeps improving all the time. Your training manual is a great work of art!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!

Tyler is doing really well with other dogs in public and not reacting to aggressive dogs or barking dogs.
One time he did react and we realized we were not practicing what you taught us, so that was a good lesson. And a dog was going on leash with a bicyclist and the dog got loose and came after Tyler and knocked the guy off his bike and Paul was able to stop the dog and Tyler did not react.
You’re amazing! And have given us hope for Tyler. What a gift you have.
